The Best Lancaster County Museums
1. Pennsylvania Railroad Museum –
All Aboard! The thrill of riding on an Iron Horse. Thats what this place is all about. Discover the history here at the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum in Strassburg PA. The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania educates the public regarding the Commonwealth’s rich railroad history, discovering the relevance of railroads in building the nation and the role of today’s railroads in our lives.
2. Landis Valley Museum –
A little different than researching the Amish and Mennonite, but pretty much right on target with the same values upon coming to Pennsylvania and ultimately Lancaster County. They are a living history village and farm, that collects, preserves and interprets the history and material culture of the Pennsylvania German rural community from 1740 to 1940. Landis Valley quotes that their Museum's richly layered story is the history of an early Pennsylvania German settlement, an unusual farm family and the ongoing creation and exploration of a wonderfully diverse collection of artifacts.
3. New Holland Historical Society Museum –
Small but powerful and ever changing. These folks tend to mix it up with different displays with an emphsis on an easier life celebrating a German Culture as they moved here from Europe due to religions persecution. Hours are limited mostly over the weekend so be sure to plan accordingly. Discover what once was and why New Holland is so important to the world of Agriculture.
4. North Museum of Science -
Onc of my favorites! And the planetarium is the best small one around. Being in downtown Lancaster, it gives me the perfect reason to go to one of Lancaster's best restaurants as well. Since 1953, the North Museum of Nature and Science has been Lancaster’s place to discover science, nature, and history. This museum offers an engaging Explore Nature Gallery, Live Animal Room, Dinosaur Gallery, state of the art planetarium and more!
