The Best Brownie Recipe Ever... I Promise!
Well, maybe I should not make that claim, each of us have our own unique tastes. However this one is pretty darn good. I will begin by telling you that it a recipe dating back to over 100 years ago. I got the cookbook at an antique shop back in April. I knew it was special. I've only tried this recipe so far, (can't seem to stop making, enjoying, eating, staring at, these darn brownies. The recipe is below.
BANGOR BROWNIES
RECIPE FROM: LOWNEY'S COOK BOOK
BY: MARIA WILLETT HOWARD
PAGE: 261
RECIPE NAME: BANGOR BROWNIES
INGREDIENTS:
1 CUP OF BUTTER
1 CUP BROWN SUGAR
1 EGG
3 SQUARES OF DARK BAKERS CHOCOLATE
1/2 TO 3/4 CUP FLOUR
1 CUP OF NUT MEATS
1/4 TSP SALT
Put all ingredients in bowl and beat until well mixed. Spread evenly in buttered baking pan. Bake and cut in strips.
Now, that is all the recipe says. Remember, recipes back in 1907 did not necessarily have to put time or temperature on them. Ovens had no temperature gage, people cooked using their sences. However, I have found that cooking the Brownies in a pre-heated oven at 325 degrees is the way to go. Cook for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out kinda dry. These Brownies are fudge like... they will be gooey. One last thing, I often triple the recipe. It fills a 9" X 11" inch pan. ENJOY! www.harvestmoonbandb.com
