Step Back in Time with Apples and Amish Ways

Lancaster, PA - There was a time when fall meant “the harvest”, and that meant “putting up” as the Amish would say, for the long cold winter. Come to Lancaster County and experience this rich part of Amish culture again.

Two innkeepers have created a fall culinary adventure for you. Explore local farms and pick your own apples. Among the many fruit stands and orchards is nearby Hopewell Village, a restored iron-making plantation that invites you to help with their heirloom apple harvest. They’ll even provide ladders, buckets and picking poles!

Discover the many ways that the Amish utilize the harvest of the season, including home-made apple butter. Learn what apple butter really is! (It’s not butter at all, but a delicious blend of cooked fruit and spices with sugar.)

Round out your stay by having dinner in a local Amish home.

Take a little of Lancaster County home with you with apple butter of the canned variety. You can also enjoy your apples fresh, or as a main ingredient in some great Pennsylvania Dutch Country recipes, which you’ll take home.

Price: $60 per couple in addition to lodging.

Dates: Available continuously September 1 through November 30. Dinner availability will vary.

This package is appropriate for all ages; families welcome.
