HERB TOUR - TAKE A WALK ON THE GREEN SIDE OF LANCASTER

A Culinary Diversion: The many faces of Herbs

As green spreads across the rolling farmland of Lancaster County, spring brings fresh promises of new beginnings. On Saturday, May 9, two area bed and breakfasts will guide tourists and locals on a path sure to please all five senses.

With the help of local experts and nurseries, they will explore all facets of herbs – starting with aesthetically pleasing additions to gardens, whether in containers, traditional herb gardens or intermingled with favorite perennial partners.

They’ll learn the medicinal properties, new ways to use both the fragrance and taste of herbs and finish the day with a feast of a five-course herb-inspired dinner on Saturday night.

Not to be overlooked is the obvious “green” benefit of growing your own herbs and having them at hand whenever the inspiration arrives to make your own salad dressing, marinade, seasoning, or add an element of crisp flavor to any dish. The fresh quality will certainly be the favored alternative to driving to the local store and buying plastic-encased herbs that have sat in warehouses, trucked across the country, or shipped from outside the US.

The package is offered at $150 per person and includes all tours, tastings, lunch, dinner and transportation. The event is open to the public. Guests staying at Harvest Moon Bed and Breakfast receive a special herb-inspired gift basket. This tour is in conjunction with our friends at the Artist's Inn.

Lancaster County Celebrates its “Southern Bayou” Connection with Mystery, Food and Fun.

Locals and tourist alike celebrate as Prudhomme’s Lost Cajun Kitchen put together a weekend filled with intrigue, fine food and great fun. Sudden demand for epicurean experiences has dictated this new twist on last years popular Cajun Event.

The excitement begins on Friday night July 10th with a “getting to know you evening” filled with intrigue and mystery at the Artist’s Inn. Listen closely to the clues as we dive into this Cajun themed murder mystery. Wear your beads and face mask to this one, for your hosts have planned a suspenseful evening.

David and Sharon Prudhomme, owners of Prudhomme’s Lost Cajun Kitchen, prepare Cajun food in the style of David’s uncle, Chef Paul Prudhomme from Louisiana. Known for his many best-selling cookbooks and exploration of spices, this flamboyant chef was responsible for sharing the love of his home cuisine with the rest of the world, teaching us not only the magic of the food, but the magic of the people of the region as well.

On Saturday, we’ll be dining alfresco at the Harvest Moon, when a little bit of Cajun country comes to New Holland. Sharon Prudhomme will demonstrate Cajun cooking and why it is as much fun to prepare as it is to eat. She’ll share tips on how you can make these dishes at home.

Cost is $175 per couple and includes the murder mystery dinner, Saturday lunch, a welcome gift and party hats and beads. Event runs July 10 and 11 2009.  So, grab your friends and head to Lancaster County - Cajun Country is closer than you think! This tour is in conjunction with our friends at the Artist's Inn
